Nonsense For Hire

On Being Perceived

I dearly love being a writer. It’s one of the very few things that I feel absolutely confident I should be doing with my life.

(I am *not* absolutely confident about my ability to do that thing, but that’s a whole different post.)

That said, I do *not* dearly love being perceived. If asked what super power I would like, I always choose invisibility. I am VERY UNCOMFORTABLE being perceived.

(That is also probably a whole different post.)

However, being a working writer, it is sometimes necessary for me to be perceived so that I can sell my books. And I do very much enjoy meeting potential readers! Being perceived by readers is different to being perceived by randos; I much prefer it.

So, here are a few more places that you, faithful reader, can come and perceive me this spring and summer.

April 25 – This Spring Book Market is coming up QUICK! One of my favorite bookstores, The Viridian Bookshop in Willoughby, OH, is hosting an event for Independent Bookstore Day and I will be there! (Along with several other awesome authors!) This bookstore is THE BEST; it’s such an amazing space, run by amazing people, and I very much encourage you to check it out. Preferably multiple times, but at the very least on April 25 so you can also come see me. 😉

June 6-7 – I posted about this before, but I’m super hyped to be appearing at the Big Ohio Book Con in Medina, OH. This is absolutely going to be the biggest book event I’ve ever done and I’m kind of nervous about it. What do I wear? What do I have on my table? Will anyone like me?? Am I even cool enough for this event???

A large square with a purple background and a photo of a round faced person, who doesn't know how to smile, wearing a black Mothman tshirt. The text says "I'm an attending author! The Big Ohio Book Con, 735 Lafayette Rd., Medina OH. Saturday, June 6, 10am to 6pm and Sunday, June 7, 9am to 4pm." The website listed is BigOhioBookCon.com.

August 1 – I’ll be vending at the 4th Annual Squonkapalooza in Johnstown, PA, with my dear friends at Retrograde Orbit Dice and Leather. (I’m not cool enough for this event but Mark and Holly have cool vibes to share so I just mooch off of them.) The event has changed locations since the last time we vended there and it looks like it’s shaping up to be a really fantastic time. If you are into cryptozoology, this is a great event. (It’s a great event even if you’re not, but it’s extra special if, like me, creatures are your jam.)

September 26 – I’ll be reappearing at the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library Author Fair in Stow, OH. This is a free event and libraries are the best. I’ll share more details as the fall approaches.

December 5 – The Viridian Bookshop is hosting a Holiday Book Market! That’s all I know but like, they’re awesome and Willoughby looks awesome around the holidays. Probably worth checking out.

I know info is light on those last two events, but go ahead and put them on your calendar now!

Again, I do enjoy meeting readers and seeing friends, so come see me at any/all of these awesome upcoming events!
