Nonsense For Hire

Walk Wednesday 7/23/25 – Vacation Walk Part 2

(If you’re new here, it might behoove you to go back and read Vacation Walk Part 1.)

Witch statues are great, but we had one more stop planned for our little outing.

DINOSAURS.

A metal dinosaur statue with open mouth growling at the camera. It may be a velociraptor? I'm not sure but it looks velociraptory.

Jerrassic Park is, I believe, technically in Pungo. It is just outside the gate to the Virginia Beach Military Aviation Museum, which I am absolutely uninterested in because sadly, Military Aviation does not include dinosaurs.

My husband and I had already been here two times, however, because he loves me and I love wonky dinosaur statues. My father-in-law had never been, though, and it is too good of a place not to share.

No signs! No buildings or shelters or bathrooms! No fee! And no idea if these guys are representing real dinosaur species! Doesn’t matter – I still love them.

Three little metal dinosaurs are emerging from three metal dinosaur eggs. There is one unhatched egg which will probably never hatch because it is covered with the rust. They are all in a large metal nest.

This mammoth is actually legitimately impressive to me. Those curls are made out of metal!

It looks like it’s made out of hay, or wood, or something like that, even close up. Impressive artistry, I think.

A very large metal statue of a mammoth facing away from the camera, and closer to the viewer so you can see the curls of metal coming off the side that look like curls of wood.

And then you have this dude.

A very derpy looking long-necked metal dinosaur statue is poking out of the tree tops and looking straight down at the camera.

I never had a dinosaur phase where I learned all the details about all the species, because I’m not that kind of neurodiverse. But I have long loved dinosaurs in general. They are BIG and GRACEFUL and COOL. For a recent date night my husband took me to see the latest Jurassic World movie. Do I really care about plots with those movies? Not really! I want to see dinosaurs wrecking stuff. That’s my favorite.

Two metal long-neck dinosaur statues stand almost side by side and look into the far distance. They look big and graceful.

BIG AND GRACEFUL.

OK, this dude is not so graceful, but I still love how artistic he looks out there in the water. Sure, he’s missing an entire lower half, but he’s really doing his best to sell it.

The top half of a long-necked dinosaur is in the middle of a pond. It has its mouth open and is displaying lots of teeth. The water level is below where the statue ends and there are just metal supports.

As a final treat when you’re leaving the park, they’ve hidden a flying friend in a tree.

The back part of a metal stegosaurus is watched over by a large metal flying dinosaur statue perched in a tall green tree.

I really enjoyed tooling around with my husband and father-in-law. This was an excellent walk with excellent people.
