Nonsense For Hire

Walk Wednesday 5/28/25

Back to the Deep Dark Woods this week. Although I took a different path which was less dark.

A long plank path in tall green grass that leads into overshadowing trees.

It’s the end of May but it has been unseasonably cool and rainy. The weather for this walk was absolutely perfect, though. Everything is green and gold in the sun. It’s so peaceful. I do love being in the woods.

A cleared out section of woods that looks like it might be a path, albeit one that seems made to trap unwary travelers.

This “path” was tempting, but that’s a fae trap path if I ever saw one. I did not go down it.

A very muddy path in a very green woods. The path is sort of blocked by a small branch or a large stick.

I also did not go down this path, which was clearly off-limits.

A tree -- white birch, maybe? -- that is covered with all sorts of carved graffiti.

Guys, don’t carve on trees. They didn’t ask for a tattoo.

A beautiful shot of an herb garden. A brick path leads down to a circle around a square hedge. There's a trellis in the back of the garden. The sky is covered with dappled clouds.

The work in the garden was done so I got to wander this beautiful area. We used to get our kids’ pictures done when they were very small, and we had some in this herb garden. I’ve always loved the layout of the beds and the bricks, the trellis in the back, this cool thing in the center.

A statue in the middle of the garden of a man with the heavens on his back.

Also a big big fan of this gross face spewing gross water. He’s the best.

A stone face, very Green Man looking, on a stone wall. There's a stone basin under the head. On the floor is a squarish pool filled with dark muddy water.

I really like this whole place, but the garden and fountain and arch and everything seemed especially magical to me on this trip.

I also made good on that promise to stick a copy of the book in the Little Free Library.

A copy of The Way We Used to Walk by Megan Engelhardt and Mark Beall on a shelf.
A person with shortish brown hair and a gray streak coming in at the temples making a Muppety excited face while standing next to a small wooden box with green trim.

So if you’re anywhere localish to me and need a copy of The Way We Used to Walk, find the deep dark woods and grab it!
