Nonsense For Hire

Walk Wednesday 5/21/25

My middlest middle kid was on the couch sick all weekend (+Monday) so we watched a lot of YouTube. One of the people we watched a LOT was Ryan Trahan, a YouTuber who actually seems like a nice guy and is much less loud and annoying than others we’ve seen.

Several of the videos we watched were Ryan going to hotels with one-star reviews and trying to bust or confirm the reviews. (Most of the time the reviews were busted.) I thought it might be fun to check low reviews on this week’s walk.

The only one star review was by Richard, who said: “Wouldn’t let the dogs in there”. (I could bust that review right away, as I saw two excellent puppers enjoying the trail.)

If I were to leave my own low review, though, it would say “TOO MANY GEESE.”

Nearly a dozen Canadian geese sit in the grass under a broad tree by a lake. They look innocent, but they are not.

Because, you see, there were too many geese.

It wouldn’t have been too much of a problem except that they were sprawled all over the path, and cobra chickens are scary. I still did try to sidle past — until one lifted its giant snake head and hissed at me.

I noped right on out of there, just turned around and went back down the trail. I’m not even ashamed.

Thankfully the rest of the walk was uneventful. I got to see some sleeping ducks.

Three ducks artistically arranged along the side of the lake, sleeping in the grass.

And this guy was hiding in a very flamboyant way.

A bird that is all black except for orange and yellow on its wings is landed on some tall brown weeds in front of a lake.

Speaking of reviews! I haven’t plugged my newest book in awhile, so if you haven’t picked it up yet and like found family, queer romance, and reality-eating monsters, give it a try!

The absolutely amazing cover of the absolutely amazing book "The Way We Used to Walk" by Megan Engelhardt and Mark Beall. You should definitely buy it.

Once you’ve read it, I would LOVE it if you could leave a review at your favorite book review site!
