I think the really cold weather has finally passed here (*fingers crossed*) and it’s so nice to be out on a beautiful spring morning at one of our beautiful local state parks. I used to bring the kids here quite a bit when they were smaller; there’s a longish paved path which is good for strollers, and a pretty garden with lots of sidewalks to run around on. The kids called it “the deep dark woods” and I still called it that in my head when I was deciding where I wanted to walk.

(Not particularly deep or dark, really.)

(Cool garden beyond the cool arch. They were doing some work there, though, so I’ll have to come back for pictures another day.)
They’ve actually added a few neat things since the last time I’ve been down to the deep, dark woods. There’s some additional trail signage, which is helpful to people who are good at maps. (Hint: not me.) Some of the trails looked a little better kept up. I passed a few people on the path, although it was less than a dozen. I imagine it will get busier as kids are out of school and the weather gets even warmer, but I was pleased to enjoy relative solitude on the trails.

Oh dang, they added a Little Free Library. Guess who’s getting copies of my book next time I go?

This wind phone is also new. It’s right along the path so I don’t know how private it would be, but the scenery around it is beautiful.

Thanks, encouraging rock art!

I *love* a crick, y’all.

I took a long detour off the paved path – no longer constrained by strollers!! – and while most of the other paths are just packed earth, there are occasionally these nice raised, boarded sections.
