I have four kids. If you hang around here any length of time, you’ll find that out. K1 has ADHD and loves graphic novels and video games. K2 is the Loki of my children. K3 is autistic and loves Mario and reading. K4 is my only girl and is a spitfire who is totally capable of setting her brothers on their heels.
I love my children, but staying at home with them has not been conducive to a really solid writing career. I’ve had some things published, published a few myself, been to a few conventions. It hasn’t all been fallow times. But it’s been hard. There’s a reason I say I write in the margins of the day. Late at night when everyone else is asleep, in pickup and drop-off lines, during swim lessons, outside while kids run through the sprinklers. All ephemeral times, nothing dedicated, nothing sacred.
But! K4 is getting ready to start school soon, and I’m seeing vast fields of free time stretching in front of me.
(OK, a few hours in the morning three days a week, BUT STILL.)
So here I am, crawling out of the shadows of “all kids all the time”, looking forward to really making a go of putting words to paper.
